Walker Cup 2025: Elite Amateur Golf Showcased at Iconic Cypress Point

Historic Return to Cypress Point
The 50th edition of the Walker Cup is now underway at the famed Cypress Point Club on the Monterey Peninsula, featuring a competition between 10 of the best amateurs from the United States against their counterparts from Great Britain & Ireland.
Taking place at what many consider the most beautiful golf course in the world, this rare opportunity to see the Alister MacKenzie gem has made the two-day event must-watch viewing for golf enthusiasts.
Tournament Format and History
The Walker Cup, which dates back to 1922, is a biennial competition between amateur male golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the United States. Throughout the tournament’s history, Team USA has dominated with 39 wins to GB&I’s nine wins, with one tie.
The event is being held on September 6 and 7, 2025. In the previous edition at St. Andrews, Team USA demonstrated their prowess by mounting a Sunday comeback to win 14½ to 11½, marking their fourth consecutive victory.
Notable Participants and Coverage
Among the competitors is Jackson Koivun, who won the Haskins Award as the top collegiate male golfer two years ago – the first freshman to do so since Justin Thomas in 2012. His recent professional tournament appearances have been impressive, with top-11 finishes in his last three events.
Golf fans can enjoy comprehensive coverage of the match between the United States and Great Britain & Ireland, with prime-time broadcasting on the East Coast both Saturday and Sunday. Golf Channel and Peacock will provide 12 hours of live coverage.
Significance and Future
The 2025 Walker Cup marks a significant moment as Cypress Point returns to the international golf scene. The course, which was part of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am rotation from 1947-90, previously hosted the Walker Cup in 1981. Notably, this tournament will be the last Walker Cup held in an odd-numbered year, as the event will transition to even-numbered years starting with the 2026 edition.
