Major Free Agency Move

Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million. The contract includes a $5.25 million base with $1.5 million fully guaranteed salary, $3.75 million signing bonus, and up to $4 million in rushing yard incentives.

Impressive Career History

Harris has established himself as one of the NFL’s most consistent performers, becoming one of only fourteen players in NFL history to record 1,000 yards rushing in each of his first four seasons. He is currently the only player in the NFL to maintain this 1,000-yard rushing streak over the past four seasons.

Steelers Transition

The move comes after the Steelers declined Harris’ fifth-year option for the 2025 season. While the team didn’t rule out a potential new deal, they wanted to evaluate how Harris would perform in Arthur Smith’s offense before making any long-term commitments.

Impact on Chargers

The Chargers are gaining a proven lead back who has demonstrated consistent production throughout his career. With their previous leading rusher J.K. Dobbins becoming a free agent, Harris is positioned to be their new bell cow back with plenty of opportunities in 2025.

Looking Ahead

Harris has already been cleared for the Chargers’ season opener against the Chiefs in Sao Paulo, Brazil, having completed three consecutive full practices. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has confirmed Harris’s availability for the game, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career.
