Setting the Stage for Lacrosse Excellence

The 2025 Mann Cup – Canada’s Senior A lacrosse national championship – kicks off on Friday, September 5th, at the historic Queen’s Park Arena in New Westminster, BC. This prestigious event represents the pinnacle of senior box lacrosse in Canada, where the best teams from Ontario and Western Lacrosse Associations compete for the sport’s most coveted trophy, showcasing elite competition and passionate rivalries.

The Contenders

For the fourth time in history and the second time in three seasons, the Six Nations Chiefs and New Westminster Salmonbellies will face off, with this matchup being a rematch of their 2023 series that Six Nations won. Six Nations is pursuing a remarkable three-peat, following their previous championships. This achievement would be particularly notable, as three-peats have been historically rare, with their last one occurring between 1994-1996.

Venue and Atmosphere

Queen’s Park Arena stands as one of Canada’s premier lacrosse destinations, featuring its iconic wooden floor. Built in 1930, this classic venue seats 3,500 spectators and is known for its warm atmosphere and loud crowds. The arena is perfectly situated, surrounded by recreational facilities and located just 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver on the Fraser River’s banks.

Star Power and Performance

Both teams feature lineups comparable to NLL All-Star teams, with nearly every player being a current or former NLL regular. The Chiefs’ offense has been particularly impressive, with Dhane Smith and Josh Byrne leading the charge. Smith earned the Johnny “Shooter” Davis award as MSL playoff MVP, recording 57 points in nine games.

Championship Format

The series will follow a potential seven-game format, with games scheduled for September 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, and if necessary, September 10th, 12th, and 13th. Fans can catch all the action via streaming on WLATV.
