Borderlands 4: Everything You Need to Know About the Next Chapter in the Legendary Franchise
A New Era for the Looter-Shooter Genre
2K and Gearbox Software have officially announced that Borderlands 4, the next entry in the iconic looter-shooter franchise, will launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The game introduces players to Kairos, a seamless playable space that promises to be the most open and free environment in the franchise’s history. This marks a significant departure from Borderlands 3’s planet-hopping structure, which featured a more compartmentalized design.
Revolutionary Gameplay Features
Players can expect to become an unstoppable force on the battlefield, wielding an arsenal of outrageous weaponry and utilizing devastating Action Skills. The game introduces a wide range of new movement abilities, including gliding, dodging, and fixed-point grappling, allowing players to deal death from every direction.
Gearbox has also made significant changes to the loot system, reducing the drop rate of Legendaries to make rarity matter again, while ensuring all guns feel great regardless of their rarity level.
New Characters and Story
While Gearbox is keeping many story details under wraps, the game introduces a new antagonist called The Timekeeper, a planetary dictator who faces opposition from the Crimson Resistance and The Rippers. Players will take on the role of new vault-hunting characters including Vex, Rafa, Harlowe, and Amon.
Release Information
Borderlands 4 will be available in three editions: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Super Deluxe Edition, with prices starting at $69.99. All editions are available for pre-order now and will release worldwide on September 12, 2025. Pre-orders will receive the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes a Vault Hunter Skin, Weapon Skin, and ECHO-4 Drone Skin.
