A Historic Race Returns with New Challenges

The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec is set to return for its 14th edition on September 13, 2025, as part of the prestigious UCI WorldTour. The event, which began in 2010, quickly established itself at cycling’s highest level.

Enhanced Course Design

The 2025 edition brings exciting changes with more laps and a modified circuit. This year’s race covers 216km, an increase of 15km from the previous year, as riders tackle 18 laps of a 12km circuit through the historic Parc des Champs-de-Bataille and the surrounding neighborhoods of Québec City’s 400-year-old upper town – the only fortified city north of Mexico.

The course features significant elevation gain totaling 2,610 metres, with each lap showcasing the challenging Côte de la Montague climb (375m at 10%). In an important modification for 2025, this signature climb has been repositioned closer to the finish line, while some late climbs have been removed from the circuit.

Elite Competition

As a UCI WorldTour event, the race guarantees participation from the 18 WorldTeams featuring the planet’s top cyclists. The competition unfolds in the heart of the “Vieille Capitale,” with its hilly terrain perfectly suited for this prestigious event, making it a unique and unifying sporting spectacle.

Defending Champion and Historical Context

Michael Matthews of Jayco-AlUla made history in 2024 by becoming the first three-time winner of the event. The Australian rider’s remarkable consistency in Québec City is evidenced by his top-five finishes in all but one of his nine appearances.

Broader Impact

The significance of the event extends beyond 2025, as Événements GPCQM, the race organizers since 2010, will also be responsible for the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal. The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec will serve as a crucial build-up event for the World Championships.
