Jake Ferguson’s $52M Extension Marks New Chapter for Cowboys’ Tight End

Historic Extension and Fresh Start
The Dallas Cowboys have secured their tight end of the future, signing Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension, which includes a $12 million signing bonus. This deal makes Ferguson the seventh-highest paid tight end in the NFL and provides the Cowboys with $1.8 million in salary cap relief for 2025.
2024 Season Challenges
Following a Pro Bowl campaign in 2023, Ferguson experienced a significant drop in production during the 2024 season, which he openly admitted was a rough year. His numbers declined from an impressive 71 catches, 761 yards, and 5 touchdowns in 2023 to 59 receptions, 494 yards, and zero touchdowns in 14 games in 2024.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As Ferguson enters his fourth NFL season in Dallas, he’s approaching 2025 with renewed energy under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The addition of George Pickens to the offense is expected to help the Cowboys, and Ferguson believes the team’s offensive weapons will be difficult for defenses to contain, noting that it will be “physically impossible to cover everybody” with threats including Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, and other talented players in both the passing and running game.
Coach’s Confidence
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has expressed strong confidence in Ferguson’s ability to bounce back, describing last year as a “fluke.” He praised Ferguson’s motivation and noted positive changes in his physique and movement during preparation for the new season.
Ferguson has dedicated his offseason to ensuring he can stay healthy and continue being a weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott and the offense, acknowledging past challenges with knee issues and a concussion but maintaining his commitment to giving his all when on the field.
