Nice to see people like you posting great news on the web.
I just wanted to know as I'm currently doing courses in the IT field is the any IT jobs on Cruises and what are their requirements
For now I got Computer Repairs & Maintenance and I'm Currently doing CCNA.
I'm interested of working the IT Field.
First of all let me tell you my history..
I am from Mauritius and I'm currently working in Mauritius Telecom Call Centre i.e. the ISP of Mauritius as a broadband helpdesk.
Two days before I've received a call from a governmental Office told me that if I'm interested to work as Asst. Cook on a cruise??I've told them that I don't have any courses in the related fields so they told me that it's the govt itself who will pay it for us, so I've said yes.
But my question is if im actually going for cook can later I may apply for IT Technician??
Hope of having an answer from you soon.
I will be honest, at first glance it is hard to instantly find jobs in IT onboard cruise ships. You Google "IT cruise job" or "IT jobs cruise ships" but you get a lot of not much. But I have done some searching and combined with my current knowledge of the job I think I can help.
First off, check to see what cruise lines have openings for positions in IT onboard via their corporate websites on the Employment or Careers page. If you see any onboard openings in their IT department, than apply directly through the website. It's a bit of legwork, but it's easy, right?
As well, I remember talking to an IT guy onboard NCL, he said they were hired as a concession, so they didn't work directly for the cruise line. Rather, they were employees of an IT staffing company for marine operations. To find this job you have to search up some IT staffing companies. I can say that as an American I know India pushes out some very smart IT folks. Does the rest of America know that? Probably not, so you may have to prove your value with some more than others if you're applying directly to the company.
I know you're from Mauritius, but Americans wouldn't know the difference anyway.
Royal Caribbean has a page on working in IT onboard their ships. Actually, due to all the charlatans out there trying to scam people into thinking they can buy a job onboard cruise ships, most cruise lines have plenty of warnings on their employment sections and they also list the hiring organizations which they work with. I happened to look up Mauritius and the recruiter Royal Caribbean recommends is as follows. I suggest you start here.
|Hiring Partner||CSCS International Manning|
One other place I have found a bit of success was registering with VHospitality. Register with them for free and they will do their best to place you. They do not charge a fee, so I trust them.
As for working in another position to "get your foot in the door", I think that will be decidedly difficult. Especially when you start in a position as low as assistant cook. That is what you will be seen as when you try to apply for the better job in IT. It could be possible, but it will take some work. As well, Asst. Cook will have a very long contract of 8-10 months. That is a long time to not be working in the biz. I suggest you go straight for the glory hole that is a job onboard in IT. They have an IT Assistant opening on all the larger ships, so you would likely start there.
I hope this helps you on your voyage and I wish you the best luck, whatever you decide.
